Every one uses FaceTime to talk to their friends and family, right? For the most part, that’s true. But when it came to African Americans, that wasn’t necessarily the case. Despite the fact that AACM was using video chats at a higher rate than any other segment, we (and Google) noticed that they weren’t using one particular app to talk to one another. Their loyalties were split between. Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Signal, and a ton of other options. So what was the deal?
When it came down to it, they valued one another’s opinion more than anything and they valued the experience they had with every call. Because they video chat as much as they do, they’re looking for the app that allows them to be their most authentic self - without interruption. Able to be themselves, it allowed them to feel like they were with their friends and family and that they were sharing experiences with one another. So we took this opportunity with Google to show exactly how they could get everything they were looking for with Google Duo.
